How to Use a Framed Document

What is a Framed Document?

The syllabus your teacher has prepared for you is a so-called “framed document.” This means that the different sections of the syllabus (the teacher’s office hours, the course schedule, the assignmentets, etc) are actually stored as a series of separate documents.

Advantages of a Framed Document

Frames are intended to help you use the document. Nonframed documents are like long scrolls: you have to remember where in the document each section is. In a framed document, the parts of the document are short, and you can access each of them from the left-hand menu on the main page, so you can easily locate each piece of the syllabus without remembering the order of the topics in it.

Drawbacks of a Framed Document

Since a framed document is essentially a series of separate documents, it is more complicated to print, and it may be harder to learn the URL of a particular part of the document, and to bookmark the location of the actual document you are in or to save it in your list of favorites.

To Print a Framed Document

If you want to print a framed document, you have to select each piece of it in the left-hand menu of the document, click in the section, and select print.
